1 Nancy J. Emken, 55, of Grand Island died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Bryan LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Third City Christian Church. The Revs. Scott Jones and Jay Vetter will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Plainview Cemetery in Bradshaw. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Emken was born Dec. 27, 1947, in York to Alverdo P. and Virginia (Burney) Bowman Jr. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Ron of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dana and Jennifer Emken and Jason and Lynn Emken, all of Aurora, CO. Additional survivors include five grandchildren; her mother, Virginia Bowman of Grand Island; her brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Karen Bowman of Lincoln; and her mother-in-law, Esther Emken of Grand Island. Mrs. Emken received her education in Marquette, and graduated from Marquette High School in 1966. She married Ronald Emken on Dec. 4, 1966, in Marquette. The couple lived in Lincoln, then Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before returning to Lincoln. They moved to Grand Island in 1974. In 1986, Nancy and Ron purchased Grand Island Aviation. She enjoyed working with flowers, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Alverdo, in 1997. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
