  General Notes:

It appears that at the age of 13, Charles was living with and employed as a servant in the household of Christian Ward and wife, an elderly couple. Although his father and probably his mother were still alive and living in Richland County, Ohio, I have not yet found them listed on the 1870 or 1880 US Census. It is not known why Charles was living with this other family.
