Some researchers show her name as Jane Elizabeth Fast but all documents appear to show her name as Eliza Jane. In addition, her father, seems to have given at least 3 of his daughters names that start with the letter E, i.e. Eliza, Emma, and Estella. The 4th daughter supposedly was named Henrietta but that seems to be a combination of his own name, Henry, and another name starting with E, Etta.

Hoppel was born on 11 May 1849 in , Montgomery County, OH,^{4 7} died on 28 January 1910 in Willshire, OH ⁷ and was buried on 31 January 1910 in Saint Marys, OH ⁷.). The cause of his death was Acute Septic Poisoning.
