Wayne E. Hazen, 74, Davenport, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Genesis Medical Center - West Campus, Davenport. According to his wishes, his body was donated to the University of Iowa. He also requested no visitation or service. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Edwin Motto Dialysis Center The Quad City Animal Welfare Shelter in Milan, Ill. or the charity of the donor's choice. Cards of condolences may be sent to the family at 28 Summer Drive, Davenport, IA 52806.

Mr. Hazen was born on April 21, 1928, in Nichols, the son of Cleve and Julia Zybarth Hazen. He married Juanita Wagner in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during Word War II, 1950-52. He worked at Oscar Mayer for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed fishing NASCAR racing, spending time on the gambling boats and especially spending time with his friends and family. He lived with his daughter, Sandi Peel, in Davenport.

Survivors include a son, District and his friend, Terry; a daughter, Sandi Peel of Davenport and her son, Jeremy; another son, Tim and his wife, Jeanne, and their son, Joshua; a special friend, Juanita; a sister, Alberta Vallet of Durant; and a brother, Ray of Fortson, Ga.

Wayne's obituary from the funeral home listed his survivors to include "a special friend, Juanita..." If this is the same as his wife, Juanita Wagner, then this language from the obituary makes it sound as if they were never married yet there is the record of their marriage from 1951 in Muscatine County. One other possibility is that they were divorced at some time but reconciled without being remarried.
