William Kirk Fast attended schools in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 1909 he entered Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, for the M.D. degree. After earning his M.D., he practiced at Atchison, Kansas. In Aug 1917 he enlisted in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army, where he served at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was honorably discharged on 31 Jan 1918. He then returned to Atchison, Kansas to practice surgery.
