Marriage Notes:
When the father, Francis Jefferson Fast, died in 1877, the mother apparently suffered severe mental anguish and was hospitalized at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan (although the 1880 US Census notes her condition as "disease of eye"). Arthur, at age 21, was the oldest son still living at home in Huntington County, Indiana and he maintained a household with his sister, Katie, and his brother Lester. For some strange reason, young William, at age 11, was sent to live with J. B. and Eliza Shaffer, an elderly couple living nearby.
