The exact identity of this person is somewhat elusive. Some researchers show her as Cora M. Prate and was a wife to Delbert Fast but there are no supporting marriage documents, census records, or birth records of any possible children. Some researchers cite a Social Security Death Index record which shows a "Cora Fast" who was born 28 Jun 1896 and died in Auglaize County in Jul 1980.
The gravestone for Delbert and his wife 1st wife, Mary Agness Grubb, shows not only their 2 names but also the name of Cora M. Fast, 1902-and what appears to be 1930 but could also be 1980. If the date were 1930 then one might think that Cora was a daughter.
However, the 1961 obituary for Delbert indicates that "In 1945, he married Cora Prate, who survives. Thus, it becomes clear that Delbert's gravestone has the names of both of his wives, Mary Agness Grubb and Cora M. Prate. It remains unclear if the Social Security record which shows a birth date of 1896 and death date of 1980 in Auglaize County, Ohio is for the same person or not.
Her maiden name may not have been Prate because the 1940 census seems to be the only document which shows any "Prates" living in or near Auglaize County, Ohio. On the 1940 census, there is a Cora Prate married to Nick Prate. They live in Saint Mary's, Auglaize County, Ohio along with one daughter named Mary Prate. It is possible that Nick and Cora either divorced or Nick may have died and by 1945, and then Cora Prate was remarried to Delbert Franklin Fast. In fact, the surname Prate could also have been spelled as Prete or even Preit.
