Gassaway - Mrs. Ruby Hudkins, 82 of Chapel Route, Gassaway, Braxton County, WV, died Saturday, December 15 at the home of her daughter in Falls Church, VA.

She was born Dec. 11, 1897, a daughter of the later Robert Haden and Viola Fast Utt of Braxton County. She was married August 27, 1922, to Wirt M. Hudkins. They were the parents of four children, W. Merlin, Glennis M., L. Marcel and Phillis M. She was preceded in death by both sons: Marcel in infancy and Merlin in World War II and her husband Wirt, Nov. 1, 1964 after a long illness.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Stairit Murphy of Falls Church, VA and Mrs. William Cunningham of Morgantown, WV; two sisters, Macel Wilson of Cedarville, WV and Mrs. Denver (Thelma) Howell of Rochester, MI; one brother, Oras Utt of St. Clair Shores, MI and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Chapel Homemakers Club land Central Rebekah Lodge No. 171 of Gassaway. She was a lifelong resident of Braxton County.

Services were held Wednesday, December 19, 1979, at Gassaway Funeral Home with Dr. Jennings Fast officiating with interment in the family cemetery.
