Bernice May Lightfoot ¹

  General Notes:

According to the Family Group Sheet found in the Genealogy Department of the Wooster Public Library, Bernice was adopted by Daniel and Minerva Biddle in October 1866 following her mother's death in 1885. I am not sure of any relationship that they had to either the Lightfoot family or the Shamp family. Bernice was only about four and one-half years old at the time. There was even one child that was younger than Bernice and it was, Anna who was only about 1 year old at the time of her mother's death. I am not sure why the father would have put up one young daughter at age 4-1/2 for adoption but kept another young daughter that was only one year old. Francis Lee Lightfoot did eventually remarry in 1896.

"Bernice Lightfoot was born in 1881 at East Union Township in Wayne, Ohio. Her parents were Francis Lee Lightfoot and Marie Emma Shamp. She married Harold Stock Miller of Canal Fulton in the early 1900's and their first child was Forrest Miller born in 1905. Her second son, Marvin Harold Miller born in 1910 married Marguaritte Cleary in 1932. They lived In Barberton, Ohio and are my wife, Marianne's parents. Marguaritte was born in 1912 in Summerfield, Ohio and is still living. On the back of the photograph of the reunion in handwriting says that the photograph was taken at the 1908 reunion at our home. This leads me to think the photograph was originally owned by Mr. or Mrs. Lee Lightfoot. I hope this information helps."

Bernice married Harold Stock Miller, son of Frank A. Miller and Nanny Stock, on 24 December 1903 in Barberton, OH. (Harold Stock Miller was born on 6 June 1882 in Canal Fulton, OH,¹ died on 5 October 1955 in Barberton, OH ¹ and was buried on 8 October 1955 in Akron, OH ¹.)
