The name of Willie Edward Smith is only found when he is mentioned on the memorial page for Mildred May Lightfoot at Find-A-Grave. No others records have yet been found. Supposedly when Mildred applied for her second marriage license in 1926 to Louie Joseph Lawslo, she indicated that she was widowed.

Willie married Mildred May Lightfoot, daughter of Charles Levi Lightfoot and Ella May Ferrington, about 1921.¹ The marriage ended in divorce. (Mildred May Lightfoot was born on 18 January 1901 in Burlington, IA,^{1 3 4 5 6} died on 21 December 1974 in Independence, MO ¹ and was buried on 24 December 1974 in Burlington, IA ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

There seems to be no supporting documents to prove a marriage between Willie Edward Smith and Mildred May Lightfoot. Yet the 1930 and 1940 US Census records show that Mildred and her daughter named May Elizabeth Smith were living at the home of Mildred's parents in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa.

Both of those census records show the daughter, May Smith, as having been born in Nebraska. There are no birth or other records to show that Mildred Lightfoot ever traveled to Nebraska. The 1930 US Census shows Mildred claiming she was divorced but the 1940 record shows her claiming she was still married but those obviously pertain to her then subsequent marriages.
