With no official birth record ever filed in Des Moines County, Iowa in 1901, Mildred made the application for a "Delayed Certificate of Birth" on 29 May 1942. She gave as evidence supporting her birth date as the Family Bible, an R.N.A. Policy dated 19 Nov 1927 (presumably a life insurance policy), and an old school record from 1916. Her application was approved on 20 Jul 1942.

¹ Daughter of Charles Levi Lightfoot and his wife Ella May Ferrington. Mildred married Willie Edward Smith but later divorced. She then married Charles Chesterfield Morgan on 26 December 1936 in Mount Pleasant. He preceded her in death by 3 months.

Mildred retired from the Burlington Basket Company in 1966, and was a member of Open Bible church and the Royal Neighbors Mayflower camp.

Mildred was survived by her daughter, Mrs. May Elizabeth Bruntmeyer of Independence, Missouri; her brother Charles William; her sister Ellen Cline; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

  Marriage Notes:

There seems to be no supporting documents to prove a marriage between Willie Edward Smith and Mildred May Lightfoot. Yet the 1930 and 1940 US Census records show that Mildred and her daughter named May Elizabeth Smith were living at the home of Mildred's parents in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa.

Both of those census records show the daughter, May Smith, as having been born in Nebraska. There are no birth or other records to show that Mildred Lightfoot ever traveled to Nebraska. The 1930 US Census shows Mildred claiming she was divorced but the 1940 record shows her claiming she was still married but those obviously pertain to her then subsequent marriages.
