bullet  General Notes:

It is interesting that at least one marriage record for his son, Charles Levi Lightfoot, who was married in 1899, that record list the son as Junior and his father as Senior. That could mean that the father's true name was Charles Levi Lightfoot, Sr. instead of Charles Avon Lightfoot.
---------------------------------------------------

from Marjorie R. Tracy,

March 2003:
After Charles' wife died in 1883, his sister, Caroline, went to live with him and care for his house and children.

April 2003:
Now, on Charley Avon Lightfoot, there is a contradiction in data. The Slooper book indicates that he was born on 4 Mar 1853, which would match your source [on the birth date of 4 Mar 1853 submitted by Kirk D. Sykes on World Family Tree Vol. 051, Tree #1106] who MAY have gotten his information from the same book. However, Charley's sister's Bible (Inger Eliza "Emma Lide" Spencer) lists him as being born on 3 Mar 1856. So that 's why I went with the 1856 information...it was from the family Bible. That doesn't mean that there weren't errors in either the Bibles (if they were gotten years later and then filled in from memory), or from census takers. Both have been known to happen.

His birth date according to the age provided in the census records varied with almost every census.
---------------------------------------------------

After his wife, Ida, died in 1883, Charles lived with his married daughter, Mary, for a number of years from before 1900 until her death in 1932. When his daughter, Mary, and her family moved to Denver, Colorado sometime between 1900 and 1910, the widowed Charles moved with them. When Mary and her family returned back to Burlington, Iowa by 1920, Charles once again moved back to Burlington but afterwards was living with his other married daughter, Sarah, and her family. The 1930 US Census shows that Charles had moved back with his married daughter, Mary, and was living with her family in Clinton, Iowa. After his daughter, Mary, died in 1932, the 1940 US Census shows Charles living by himself next door to Mary's daughter, Verna, and her family.
--------------------------------------------------

There is a gravestone for "C. A. Lightfoot" in Oakland Cemetery, Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa. The gravestone shows a birth date of 3 Mar 1854 and a death date of 10 Sep 1944. While these are not the exact dates provided by researcher Marjorie R. Tracy, they are extremely close and probably provided to the monument maker by well-meaning relatives who did not know his true birth date.

bullet  Death Notes:

His death date comes from his death notice in The Quad City Times, Davenport Iowa, Monday, 11 Sep 1944 issue page 2.

NOTE - Obviously the marriage date of 8 Nov 1876 as submitted by Kirk D. Sykes on World Family Tree Vol. 051, Ed. 1, Tree #1106, (Genealogy.com, LLC, Release date: February 2000), CD-ROM is in conflict with the birth years (1874) of their first children as shown on the 1880 Census. Perhaps Belle was born out of wedlock, 3 years before their parents were married or perhaps her birth date is not correct.
