bullet  General Notes:

Was believed to have been previously married to Jerome Lake sometime before 1840 in New York. Perhaps have one daughter, Cordelia Lake, 1836-1916.
--------------------------------

from Marjorie R. Tracy:
"Ann Nelson" was the name listed in the marriage records for Levi Lightfoot; however, she was born Susan Anne Corneliusdatter Nilson, and came across from Norway with her parents, Cornelius Nilson and Kari Padersdatter. When they came to the United States, they Americanized their name to "Nelson". She was previously married to Jerome Lake in New York so when "Ann" married Levi Edward Lightfoot, her name was, in fact, Susan Anne Nelson-Lake.

Her second child with Levi, Inger Eliza Lightfoot, was nicknamed "Emma Lide" who married Burdette Spencer. They came to live in Elmira, New York. He fought in the Civil War after they were married and then he returned to Elmira and died in 1916. After that, "Emma" moved to Lily Dale, New York to the Spiritualist colony there and lived out her life. Burdette and Emma had two sons, one of whom, Burr Leland, died in a fall from a bridge construction site. Their other son, Earnest Lightfoot Spencer, was my husband's grandfather. After Emma's mother died on 23 Oct 1865 in Illinois, Levi remarried.

The information on Susan Anne Corneliusdatter Nilson (aka Susan Anne Nelson-Lake-Lightfoot) comes from family bibles, as well as from a book called, "The Sloopers: Their Ancestry and Posterity," by J. Hart Rosdail, Photo Press, Inc., Broadview, Illinois, 1961. It takes her ancestry back to 1185 to "Viking on Torsnes".

I have a photo of "Anna" when she was younger, and a photo of Levi with one of his other wives, though we have not been able to identify her. We also have photos of other family members, if anyone is interested.

NOTE - If her birth date was 30 Sep 1813, the her age should have been 46 instead of 40. A difference this great must be because of an enumerator error in writing down the wrong number.

• She was buried after 23 October 1865 in the Nelson Cemetery in LaSalle County, IL.

Buried on a hill just above the Cleng Peerson Spring in the Cornelius Nelson Family cemetery in the old Foxe River Settlement which became Mission Township.

The attached gravestone photo is of a stone found in the Nelson Cemetery that has an unreadable name. The death date is Oct 23, 186?, possibly 1865. Some earlier lists say it could be Christopher Nelson, but other say he is buried at Brumbach with his wife.
