Nellie was killed in one of the first car accidents in Chemung, when a bee flew in the window and stung the driver on the neck. My mother-in-law (Helen Wilhelminia Spencer) was only 16 at the time and raised her two younger sisters.

Helen married Earnest Lightfoot Spencer, son of Burdette Spencer and Emma Eliza Lightfoot, on 19 September 1900.1 (Earnest Lightfoot Spencer was born on 28 March 1874 in Logansport, IN,1 3 died on 8 September 1968 in Elmira, NY 1 4 and was buried after 8 September 1968 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, Chemung, NY 1 4.)
