bullet  General Notes:

The name of Jacob W. Martin does NOT appear with the family on the 1850 US Census when he would have been about 3 years old. However, he is listed with the family on the subsequent 1860 US Census with an age of 13.

On that 1850 US Census in which his name was missing, there appears the name of George Martin, with the same age that Jacob should have been, 3 years old. The name of George does NOT appear on any other census with the family.

This might lead one to believe that George and Jacob could have been the same person.

To complicate matters, in 1855 another Jacob B. Martin was added to the family and both of the names appear on the 1860 US Census.

It is not known why the parents would want 2 children each with the same given name especially when it appears that one of them could have originally been named George.
