Grandpa Whitla (Wilford), had heart surgery in about 1958. They told him he would not live another six months. He lived over 25 years after that surgery. When he died, he donated his body to medical research.

Wilford died of myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease. According to his wishes, his body was donated to Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass. for medical research.

Wilford married Opal Fay Curry, daughter of Benjamin Harrison Curry and Golda R. Dennis, in 1927 in East Liverpool, OH.1 The marriage ended in divorce. (Opal Fay Curry was born on 12 September 1911 in New London, OH,2 died on 10 August 1967 in East Liverpool, OH 1 2 and was buried in August 1967 in Columbiana County, OH 1.)
