Daniel Lightfoot held several public positions: Superintendent of the Hancock County Infirmary, Superintendent of the Maple Grove Cemetery and a member of the National Guard (entered as a private and advanced to Captain. During the Spanish American War, he was a captain of an organization of the Sons of Veterans.
