bullet  General Notes:

The Chambersburg newspaper account of Jacob's death was as follows:

As Edward Boggs was walking past the main entrance of the Hotel Montgomery a few minutes past 6 PM going toward Memorial Square, Jacob Rhone, intoxicated just enough to be exuberant, reached forth and slapped Boggs on the cheek with his open palm. Boggs stopped and uttered a surprised protest. Rhone threatened with clenched fist to give him worse. Boggs struck his assailant two rapid blows, one on the upper left breast and the other under the left ear. Rhone fell backward full length in the hall of the Hotel. Boggs walked on this way. Passers by helped Rhone to his feet. He seemed dazed and stunned but no one thought he was badly hurt. In a minute Rhone, without a sound, pitched headlong to the sidewalk falling full length face down upon the pavement. A physician was called and pronounced Rhone dead at the scene. An autopsy showed Rhone died due to paralysis of the heart caused by a blow on the pneumograstic nerve. The "deceased came to his death from blows inflicted by Edward Boggs". Burial may have been on 8 August 1899. Newspaper article confirms burial on 7 August.
