Hans S. Hanson passed away at his home here on Sunday, January 1, at the age of 77 years. Deceased was born in Norway, April 5, 1850, and when a youth of 17, came to America with his parents. They settled first at Trempealeau. In 1875, he married Miss Tillie Olson. For twenty years the couple made their home in the town of Gale, on the farm now occupied and owned by Lee Saola. In 1896, they retired from active farm life and bought a home in Galesville. For several years Mr. Hanson worked at various employments in the village, and he was assessor here for eight terms. His wife passed away seven years ago, and since that time a sister, Sarah, has made her home here with him. Three older sisters survive, as does a brother. They are Mrs. Lena Arbenger, Fort Bliss, Texas; Mrs. Martha Egeland, Webster, S.D.; Mrs. Annie Olden, Roundup, Mont., and Louis O. Hanson, Trempealeau. Funeral services were held from the home and Zion Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. L.S.J. Roque officiated. He was laid to rest in the Pine Cliff cemetery.
