General Notes:
Robert C. Westphal, Jr.: Received a short "story" about our g-g-grandfather in Norway yesterday. He was a wealthy farmer in Eidskog Parish around 1820... owned 5 farms, and was also a "certified" musician (appointed by the state director of musicians in Oslo in 1830). Left Norway in 1867 ----------------------------------------
Birth Notes:
The 1865 Norway Census seems to indicate that Syver was born in the Parish of Eidskog while the baptism records dated indicate that he was born in Vinger Parish. There probably is some translation or cultural differences that explain the discrepancy. ---------------------------------------------
Eidskog is a municipality in Hedmark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Glåmdal. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Skotterud. Eidskog was separated from the municipality of Vinger in 1864.
The municipality is located at the southern end of Hedmark county. It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Kongsvinger and in the west by Aurskog-Høland, Nes og Sør-Odal. Eidskog borders on Sweden, both to the east and south. --------------------------------------

NOTE - The name of the youngest infant is not known. He/She might be either Ludvig or Hilda which are listed as being buried in Norway but Drugan family information is that two babies were buried at sea. The could mean either Ludvig or Hilda was buried in Norway while the other was the unknown "infant" who was subsequently buried at sea. ----------------------------------------
(Source: verbal info from Lena Louise Hanson, approximately 1970) "Homes in Westby and Trempealeau County, Wisconsin Two baby brothers died and buried at sea while en route to US."
I'm not sure about 2 babies dying at sea. Maybe I misunderstood her or perhaps this was correct because their two youngest children, Ludvig and Hilda, are shown within the Drugan Family records to have died in Norway. Perhaps noting them as dying in Norway would also mean that they died and presumably were buried at sea.
"Worked as a shoemaker, saddle repairs, bicycle repair shop."
I also think she meant for this comment to apply to Lars (Louis) Hansen the son, and not Syver Hansen the father. ----------------------------------------
The father's last name as used in the US was spelled "HANSEN" and the spelling on the gravestone of Sigri, the wife, is also spelled "HANSEN". However it appears that perhaps all of the children that came to America spelled their last names "HANSON". This is evidenced by a photo of the gravestone of the son, Lars "Louis", who spelled his last name as "HANSON". A daughter, Sigrid (Sarah), who apparently never married, also has her last name on her gravestone spelled as "HANSON". -----------------------------------------
