5 Harold A. Motschenbacher, 85, of Trempealeau died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

Harold was born Oct. 6, 1921, to Eli and Martha (Hanson) Motschenbacher in Trempealeau. Harold graduated from Trempealeau High School. He also graduated from college earning a master's degree in science and education. On Dec. 8, 1941, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater in the 4th Armored Division and in the 126th Armored Battalion under Gen. George S. Patton. Harold was discharged from the Army on March 29, 1946.

Harold was a member of the Towner Littlebear Arnold VFW Post 1915 in Trempealeau. Harold also was a member of St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau. On Aug. 22, 1947, Harold married Theresia Schwarz in La Crosse.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Eric of Virginia; a daughter, Rita (Russell) Peterson of Stoddard, Wis.; four grandchildren, Misha, Nicholas, Alexander and Melanie; and a brother, Norman Motschenbacher of Trempealeau. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Sieglinda.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 27, at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau. The Rev. Arul Joseph will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Onalaska Cemetery, Onalaska, Wis. Friends may call from 10 until 11 a.m. today at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church. Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville (Wis.) chapel, assisted the family.
