bullet  General Notes:

Leo's mother, Mary Drugan is thought to have died between his birth and 1900. Leo is found in the 1900 Census living with his father and his step-mother. However, by the 1910 Census, Leo is found living with his widowed maternal grandmother. In his obituary, it states that his mother died at his birth but the timeline does not correspond. He was thought to have been born in 1894 and his mother died in 1895. His birth year is somewhat in doubt with 1895 being an alternate date which could mean that his mother did indeed die at his birth.

• His obituary was published in the Winona Republican Herald on 2 February 1942 in Winona, MN.

Leo McCarty, 46, died at St. Petersburg, Fla., January 31. He was born in Ettrick February 12, 1895, son of Mayme Drugan and Richard McCarty. His mother died at his birth. His boyhood was spent at Ettrick. He married Aurilla Perkins February 9, 1916, and followed his trade as plumber in La Crosse for many years. As Trempealeau residents they were members of the St. Bartholomew Parish. In 1926 they moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where they made their home except for a short time in 1939 and 1940 when they lived in Trempealeau. Mr. McCarty is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Orville Lutz (Ruth Mary) Freeport, Illinois. The funeral will be on Tuesday in St. Petersburg. Mrs. Hubert Drugan of Trempealeau is a sister of Mrs. McCarty.

NOTE - The newspaper misinterpreted the death date and location with the burial date and location. Leo died in Mobile, Alabama and was buried in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
