George Henry Gushard, Sr., 87, of Mansfield, died early Monday morning, June 12, 2006, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born December 26, 1918, in Richland County, he was the son of Arthur Henry and Cora (Figley) Gushard. He was a lifelong area resident and retired from Richland Shale Brick Co. as a mechanic. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Maxine (Swartz) Gushard; eight children, George Gushard, Jr., Shirley Walter, Garlene Littleton, Gloria Blake, David Gushard and Lonnie Gushard, all of Mansfield, Connie Moore of Bell Center, Ohio, and Terry Gushard of Virginia; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; four sisters; and a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and one sister. Honoring Mr. Gushard's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors assisted the family with arrangements.
