Eddie, as he was called, was the son of David Groff, whom Eddie's mother, Sarah Catherine Shafer, d/o John Randolph Shafer, did not marry until 15 years after Eddie's birth.

Catherine and David had one other child, Anna Katherine, who lived with Eddie at least through the 1930 census.

³ EDDIE RANDOLPH SHAFER, well-known retired farmer of near Middletown, died at his home early Sunday morning of complications, aged 67 years, 5 months and 19 days.

He was a member of the Middletown Reformed church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mable Shafer; and a half-sister, Miss Katherine Groff, Frederick.

Services were held at the Gladhill Company funeral home; interment in Reformed cemetery.
