She was born at Joker, the daughter of the late Everett and Ella F. Hathaway Gainer. She was an elementary school teacher at Red Hill School during World War II and was retired from Rubber Fabricators, Inc., Grantsville.
Surviving are her husband, Fred O. Barnes; one son, Richard Barnes of Parkersburg; one daughter, Elizabeth Anne Smith of Grantsville; two grandsons, Thomas C. Barnes of Charleston and Jason Bradley Smith of Grantsville; four granddaughters, Ramona B. MacGregor of Athens, Ohio, Shannon Dee Johnson of Grantsville, Meredith L. Cornell of Huntington and Heather Ann Smith of Lexington, Ky.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dr. William Barnes; four brothers, Everett Gainer, Jr., Vernon, Artie and Lora Gainer; and two sisters, Scottie Dawson and Audrey Garretson.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
