William E. Barnes, 58, of Ripley died March 23, 1998, in Saint Mary's Hospital, Huntington.

He was a native of Calhoun, a longtime Ravenswood physician, a graduate of Glenville State College and West Virginia University school of medicine, an Army Medical Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the American College of Surgeons, North Parkersburg Baptist Church and Phi Chi fraternity.

Surviving: wife, Mary Susan Hall Barnes; daughters, Meridith Cornell of Huntington, Heather Smith of Lexington, Ky.; parents, Fred and Eleanor Gainer Barnes of Grantsville; brother, Richard Barnes of Parkersburg; sister, Ann Smith of Grantsville.

Service will be 1 PM Thursday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with the Rev. Glendon McKee and the Rev. Kenneth Miller officiating. Burial will be in Sand Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM today at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, and three hours prior to service at Stump Funeral Home. Stump Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
