bullet  General Notes:

Elizabeth seems to be missing in the 1870 and 1880 US Census records. Some researchers claim that she later moved to Wheeler County, Nebraska where she died there in Jan 1892 and is buried in Antelope County, Nebraska.

The Billion Graves web site shows a photo of a gravestone at Park Center Cemetery in Lincoln, Antelope County, Nebraska for a Elizabeth Halferty Sims, born 24 Mar 1822 and died 26 Jan 1892. The gravestone indicates that she was the wife of M. J. Sims. The birth year of 1822 is well worn on the gravestone and may be 1832. There is no grave site for M. J. Sims. It is not known with any certainty if this was the same Elizabeth Halferty who was the wife of Jefferson Davis Moses.

Interestingly, the husband of Elizabeth's youngest daughter, Lucy Francis Moses, was married to Oliver Runnels who was raised by the Sims family in Illinois and later in Iowa. He died in Antelope County, Nebraska in 1911.

Two of Elizabeth's children were married in Michigan. The daughter, Mary Vina Moses was first married to Charles Fremont Carroll in 1878 and in 1910 she was remarried to Jacob Hall Aumick. But this is where the research becomes interesting. On the marriage record when the daughter married her 2nd husband, Jacob Aumick, her mother's name was listed as Elizabeth Moses but her father's name was listed as Genley Moses. At this point in 1910, both Elizabeth and Jefferson were already deceased so the names of Mary's parents were listed on the marriage record just for record keeping purposes. But who is Genley Moses? Was this a family nickname for Jefferson or had Elizabeth been remarried to a different person with that name. I can find no records of a marriage between Elizabeth and Genley so I have no idea who he could be.
