NOTE - There were four other infant children missing from this enumeration. These include Arthur Dale Owen Methven born in 1864, Charles Andrew Methven born in 1866, William Byron Methven born in 1868, and Harry H. Methven born in 1869. The strange thing is that the enumeration for the other family members ended at the bottom of the census page and one would normally expect to find the remaining children listed on the next page. In this case, the next page begins another family. It's as if there is a missing page that was lost by the enumerator. The dwelling numbers and family numbers continue in order but the names of the missing children are not to be found on any page. The only other plausible answer is that for some reason, the four youngest children were living with other relatives and their names do not appear in this 1870 census.

NOTE - The information about 6 out of 9 children being still alive is interesting. According to the most recently available information, Daniel and Ellen had a total of 10 children and all but 3 or possibly 4 had died by the date of this 1900 census. The only three children that were known to be still alive were Thomas Hamlin Methven, James Robison Methven, and Edgar Kirk Methven. The exact date of death of Arthur Dale Owen Methven is not know other than sometime after 1895. The fact that Ellen could no longer remember the birth location of her father and provided the wrong birth date and age for herself may indicate failing mental facilities in Ellen and thus her confusion over the number of living children.
