Kenneth Earl West Sr. was adopted by Harry and Josephine Boatman Eckert when he was about 5. His last name was changed to Eckert. The story behind that is my great grandfather, Guy, left Harriett after [their daughter] Mable had died. She put my great uncle Don in a Catholic boarding school in Michigan and adopted out my grandfather [Kenneth]. I believe she would have kept him if she would have had the money. Like I said, she, Harriett, never lost touch with him after Harry and Josephine adopted him.
