From the book "Sumpter Township 1840-1910" by Jeanne Hartwick. The following paragraph is supposed to have been taken from Volume 2 of Silas Farmer's book "History of Detroit and Wayne County and early Michigan" published in 1890.

"Alexander H. MARVIN was born in Brockport NY, April 15, 1842, came to Michigan in 1862, and settled in Sumpter. He married Miss Theresa Briyer (sic, should be Bridger), of Lyons, NY, in 1863. They have ten children, viz.: Mary, Maria, Daniel, Henrietta, Lillian, John, Ernest, Edward, Cora, and Floyd, another son, George died some years since. Mr. Marvin is engaged in farming."

  Marriage Notes:

It is believed that Alexander and Theresa had at least 10 children who lived into their adulthood. Of the five known Marvin brothers all moved from Michigan and are found living in McHenry County, Illinois beginning with the 1900 US Census. In addition, one sister, Harriett, who was married in Michigan in 1889 also moved to McHenry County by 1900 along with her family. She had one son born in Michigan in 1896 and another born in Illinois in 1900 so if all of the Marvin siblings came to McHenry County more or less at the same time, the birth locations of the children of Harriett would seem to pinpoint the move as sometime between 1896 and early 1900. Even their father, Alexander Marvin, was found living with his married son, John Marvin, in the 1910 US Census in McHenry County, but so far he has not been located for the 1900 US Census.

Of the five sisters, other than Harriett, only one other, Maria, is known to have been married in 1884 which was before the rest of the siblings moved from Michigan to McHenry County, Illinois. She probably remained in Michigan with her husband and family. The location of the remaining sisters or their possible married names is not yet known.
