"Scotland Marriages, 1561-1910," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTGV-SJK : 10 February 2018), Andrew Renton and Agnes Wallace, 19 Jul 1822; citing Innerwick,East Lothian,Scotland, index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 1,067,850.
-------------------------------------------

The Scottish census records from 1841 and 1851 may be somewhat spotty but there remain some questions about the names of missing family members from these census records. On the 1851 Scotland Census, there is no mention of William, Janet, or Andrew.

William would have been about 28 years old for the 1851 Scotland Census and could possibly have been living by himself. He was not married until 1861 and his 1900 US Census record indicates that he supposedly immigrated in 1850. That date is not confirmed and it would have been before his parents immigrated in 1851. He appears back with his father in the 1860 US Census in Michigan. I doubt that he came to the US before his parents so I suspect that he immigrated into the US shortly after his parents in 1851.
-----------------------------------------

Andrew was the first of his family to come to the US. All others, including his brothers, remained in Scotland. He and most of his family sailed from Glasgow to New York.On 14 Jul 1851, the SS Harmonia entered New York harbor sailing from Glasgow. Onboard were Andrew and his wife Agnes as well as 6 of their children which included Janet (Jessie), Marion, Andrew Jr., James, John, and George with his wife Agnes and their young daughter, Agnes. Andrew's occupation was listed as farmer.

The shipmaster's list showed the following:

Andrew Renton, Male, 60, Farmer
Agnes Renton, Female, 48 (wife)
Jessie Renton, Female, 20 (daughter)
Marion Renton, Female, 18 (daughter)
Andrew Renton, Male, 15 (son)
James Renton, Male, 14 (son)
John Renton, Male, 8 (son)
George Renton, Male, 25 (married son)
Agnes Renton, Female, 24 (wife of George)
Agnes Renton, Female, 3 (daughter of George)

Missing from the list was the young son Thomas who would have been about 9 years old. He is assumed to have died before 1851.

Older sons who were already married and remained behind in Scotland included William and Robert. It is not known for certain when William finally immigrated to the US but his first child was born in Michigan in 1862. The other son, Robert and his family, followed by 1869. All of them settled in Wayne County, Michigan.
