bullet  General Notes:

While talking to her next door neighbor about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon, Mrs. S. N. Culler, of 16 St. Clair Street, was shot in the left foot by a stray bullet. So far as can be learned the bullet came from the rifle of another neighbor who was engaged in shooting at sparrows in a cherry tree.

Mrs. Culler was at the side door of the home of Andrew Crist, 18 St. Clair Street, and was talking to Mrs. Crist when she suddenly exclaimed, "I'm shot." The woman had heard the report from a gun an instant before.

Dr. M. J. Davis was called to the Culler home, and an examination showed that the bullet had entered the side of the shoe, just missing an eyelet. The bullet was embedded in the foot, and although Dr. Davis probed for it, he was unable to locate it. An X-ray examination, will be necessary to determine the lodgment place of the bullet.

Police made an investigation of the shooting, and learned that Thomas Gallagher, McPherson Street, was shooting at sparrows in his cherry trees at the time the stray bullet struck Mrs. Culler. He was using a 22 caliber rifle, and it is believed to have been a 22 caliber long bullet that entered her foot. It was also learned that another person in that neighborhood had heard a bullet pass close to his head a few days ago.
