1 TALBERT LAWYER DIES; VETERAN SCHOOL AIDE

The Supervisor of Frederick County school construction, Talbert F. Lawyer, 55, of Thurmont died Saturday at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Lawyer had been employed by the Frederick County Board of Education for the past 24 years. He started as a teacher and rose to the position of supervisor of construction.

In this position, he was responsible for school building inspection and for assigning maintenance responsibilities. He also played an important role in the restoration and renovation of Elm Street School and several other schools in the county.

He was born in Carroll County, a son of Mary E. Fike Lawyer and the late Milton O. Lawyer. He was a member of the Thurmont Church of the Brethren and served on the church board.

He graduated from Michigan State College and also went to the University of Maryland Graduate School. He was a member of Iota Lambda Sigma Fraternity, National Council of School Construction, and numerous teacher's associations of Frederick County and Maryland. He was also a charter member of the Thurmont Chapter of the Future Farmers of America. His hobby was building grandfather clocks, many of which remain in his home.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Adeline Magaha Lawyer; a son, Calvin Lee Lawyer of Washington; two grandchildren, Jonathon Lee and Veneta Lee Lawyer; and three brothers, Stafford Lawyer of Thurmont, Earl Lawyer of Cumberland and Delmar Lawyer of Smithsburg.

Friends may call at the Creager Funeral Home in Thurmont, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Kenneth Franklin, his pastor, assisted by the Rev. Merlin E. Garber, will officiate.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in care of Mrs. Ray Green of Thurmont RFD 1 for a memorial fund at Bridgewater College.

1 Very largely attended funeral services for Tolbert F. Lawyer were held Tuesday at the Creager Funeral Home in Thurmont.

All branches of the Frederick County Board of Education were represented. Bearers were George Ford, Rudolph Harne, Virgil Harne, Richard Metcalf, William Null, Elvin Stottlemyer, H. D. Williams and John Kaas.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Franklin and the Rev. Merlin E. Garber.

Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
