Rachel L. Fay, dearest wife and most loving mother, age 62, of Portage, died on Saturday, April 2, 1994 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Madison. The former Rachel Lila Wheeler was born on March 25, 1932 in Portage, Wisconsin to Donald D. and Charlotte W. (Schult) Wheeler. She was a 1950 graduate of Portage High School. On March 9, 1963, Rachel was united in marriage with Leo R. Fay in Madison, Wisconsin. In 1968, they moved to Deerfield. Mrs. Fay worked at several beauty shops in the Madison and Deerfield areas for over 25 years. Before moving back to Portage in 1980, she also worked at the University of Wisconsin Physical Plant in Madison until her retirement. Surviving are her husband, Leo R. Fay of Portage; three children, Wendy (James) Tiede of East Bristol, Michael (Peggy Smith) Fay of Madison, and Mary (Patrick) Fahey of Portage; nine grandchildren; a sister, Ruth (Glenn) Cutsforth of St. Petersburg, Florida; two brothers, Robert (Barbara) Wheeler of Watertown and Ronald (Chris) Wheeler of Portage; and nieces, nephews, and other near relatives and friends. Mrs. Fay was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald E. Wheeler; and a niece and a nephew. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 1994 at 11:00 a.m. from the PORT-AXTELL FUNERAL HOME in Portage. Reverend Thomas Fitzgerald and Reverend Donald Wandersee will officiate. Burial will be at the Welsh Cemetery in Caledonia Township, Columbia County, Wisconsin. Friends may call at the Port-Axtell Funeral Home in Portage on Tuesday, April 5, 1994 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. where a scripture service will be held at 7:45 p.m., and on Wednesday until the time of funeral services.
