Although they were married in Dec 1909, just 4 months later Norma was enumerated as single and living with her parents. Meanwhile in a house just a few numbers away, she was also enumerated as the wife of Roy H. Carroll. Its not known if this was a case of the parents just not wanting to give up their daughter or perhaps the daughter was merely staying with the parents at the time. Both enumerations happened on the same day. Complicating this start to their marriage is the supposed birth of a son, Milton Carroll, who was born in 1908 one year before they were married. Milton does not appear with the couple in the 1910 US Census when he would have been about 2 years old but he does appear with the widowed Norma in the 1920 US Census with an age of 12.
