NOTE - Sarah indicated that she was widowed but her husband, Thomas, did not die until 7 years later in 1917. Perhaps they were separated at the time and Thomas was living elsewhere but he does not show up in any records discovered so far. The obituary for Thomas mentions that he was survived by a wife.

Thomas did die at the home of his daughter, Rosa, so perhaps his elderly wife, Sarah, was unable to care for him during his final years and he was living with his married daughter where his health care might have been provided more readily.

• Her obituary was published in the Carrollton Daily Democrat in April 1929 in Carrollton, MO.

Sara Elizabeth Lightfoot died at the home of her daughter in Carrollton, Sunday morning at 9:00 o'clock at 209 S. Hale.

Funeral services in her memory were held from the Willis Brothers Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Sara Elizabeth Riffe was born in Carroll County December 31, 1849 and departed this life April 7, 1929.

She was married to Thomas Jefferson Lightfoot on April 28, 1872 and to this union eleven children were born four of whom have preceded her in death; also by her husband who died March 17, 1917. She is survived by the following sons; of Kansas City, MO, Richard, Homer; Gilbert and William, of the city. One daughter Mrs. C. C. Mirick of Ft. Worth, TX. Mrs. L. M. Hahn of Keokuk, IA, and by Mrs. Charles Young of this city at whose home she died. Mrs. Lightfoot was a Christian woman, well known and beloved by all of her acquaintances."
