bullet  General Notes:

It may be possible that the "Sarah Wacoser" who was married to George Washington Pendleton in 1887 was the same Sarah C. Chapman who was married to George Washington Wacaster who died in 1886. The approximate birth dates match as does the location of Catawba County. In addition, it was her sister, Francis Chapman who was originally married to George Washington Pendleton and when Francis died in 1885 it was very convenient for the widowed sister, Sarah Wacaster, to remarry to Pendleton. Otherwise, there are no census records for the widow Sarah Wacaster after her husband died in 1886. If she did indeed remarry, then her census records continue under the name of Pendleton.

The only unknown part is what would have happened to her children after she was remarried to George Washing Pendleton. She had 6 children under 16 years of age at the time of the possible remarriage to Pendleton in 1887. None of the children are mentioned in any census records for Pendleton in 1900 or 1910. There were multiple Wacaster siblings living in the same area so perhaps one of the Wacaster siblings took custody of the children. The 16 year old daughter Minnie was living with her married sister, Dora, for the 1900 census.

If I could positively tie this "Sarah Wacoser" to Sarah Chapman or find proof that any of the Wacaster children ever lived with George Pendleton and his second wife, then I could make such a determination that they were the same person. It seems very likely but there is no absolute proof yet found.

Sarah Chapman is supposedly buried in the Williams-Chapman Cemetery in Catawba county under the Wacaster surname.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

The difference in their ages is hard to imagine but at least one researcher reports that George Washington Wacaster was born in 1803 which put him at 63 years old and about 40 years older than Sarah Chapman when they were married. She may have been his 4th wife and he had multiple children with his other wives. He apparently fathered children until he was 82 years old and died at the age of 83 just one year after his last child was born. His marriages are reported as follows:

m. about 1825, wife's name unknown but believed to be Adeline Freeman, at least 2 sons
m. about 1829, Mary Williams, b. abt. 1816, d. abt 1850, 9 children
m. 08-17-1859, Francis Schnider, divorced, children unknown
m. 01-22-1866, Sarah Chapman, 9 children
