bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• He has alternate birth information of 1841.The problem with this alternate date of birth as reported on the memorial page of Find-A-Grave.com is that the year of 1841 does not work with any of the census reports for John whereas the year of 1842 does work.

• He appeared on the 1850 US Census in Union Township, Muskingum County, OH on 1 October 1850. 1

• He was buried after 9 January 1862 in the Pee Dee Cemetery in Springdale Township, Cedar County, IA.

John's gravestone is a very badly weathered white sandstone tablet. All that is still relatively easy to read as of 2000 is "John W. Linn" and "Jan. 9, 1862" which was his date of death.

The inscription appears to read:
In Memory of
John W. Linn
??? Company(?) (E?) of
the 16th Iowa (?) Regiment(?)

Davenport, Iowa
Jan 9, 1862 (1864?)
