The 1850 US Census indicated that Ellis was born in Illinois instead of Kentucky like the rest of his siblings. The family must have moved to Illinois around that time where Sarah gave birth to Ellis. The father, Ellis Sr. actually died about 7 months prior to the birth of Ellis Jr.
