• His obituary was published in the New Albany Ledger on 15 November 1869 in New Albany, IN.

DROWNED'97 On Saturday the 6th, Christopher Meads, a young man about 18 years of age, son of William Meads, was drowned in Swan Pond, about six miles northwest of town. His father had killed some ducks in the pond, and Christopher went after them in an old canoe which capsized with him a short distance from the shore. Life was extinct before his body could be recovered. His father in attempting to rescue him, came very near sharing his fate.
