   Cause of his death was Cerebral Hemorrhage.

  General Notes:

Melanchthon Culler served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted on August 11, 1862 as a Private age 23 in Company B, 120th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry for 3 years service. He was transferred to Company E, 114th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, on November 27, 1864. He mustered out at New Orleans, LA on June 10, 1865 (Mustered out by order of War Dept.)

Some researchers show that Melancthon was born in Venango County, Pennsylvania but he consistently indicated Ohio on all of his census records. Even his son indicated on his death certificate that his birth location was in Richland County, Ohio. Both of his parents were born in Maryland but their families had moved to Richland County which is where his parents were married. I can't see how he would have been born in Pennsylvania unless the parents were there visiting or had moved there temporarily.

At least one researcher claims the following valid census for Melancthon:

1870 US Census Series M593 Roll 1261 Page 238 (Monroe Twp., Richland Co., OH) (living with parents)

However, an examination of the actual census page shows only his parents without Melancthon or his wife. In spite of other Culler families living in the area, they are not found in the 1870 census.
