From the Wymer Family Bible collection:
John died when he was 10 years old, just a very young boy. They said he was kicked in the head by a horse in their barn, but Grandmother Eunice Lightfoot Wymer and many other members of the family always felt he was killed by some boys playing in the barn. The boy that they thought did it, moved away and could not be located for questioning.

• He was buried after 31 May 1884 in the Pee Dee Cemetery in Springdale, IA.

The gravestone for young Johnie is a white sandstone obelisk approximately 60" tall. Although it is starting to show serious signs of weathering in September of 2002, the inscription reads "Johnie B., son of J. & E. A. Wymer, Died May 31, 1884, Aged 10 years 2 months 26 days".
