Iris Geraldine Schreurs, 94, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Riverbend Nursing & Rehab Center.

Private Services will be held. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine County Genealogy Association.

Mrs. Schreurs was born on Nov. 27, 1908, in Muscatine, the daughter of Benjamin E. and Susan Ida Wymer Sharer. She married Clifford Alfred Schreurs on Nov. 27, 1929, at the First Baptist Church by her uncle, Dr. Hal E. Norton.

She was active 43 years working with her husband in their store, The Schreurs Radio, Television, and Records until they retired in 1972.

Mrs. Schreurs was prominent in many Patriotic and Royal Orders descending direct from a family of Royalty.

She was a 'Life Member' of the National Society of 'Magna Charta Dames', the American of Royal Descent, the Plantagenet (earliest Kings of England); the Colonial Order of The Crown, and the United States Capital Historical Society. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Colonists of the Priscilla Alden Chapter of Cedar Rapids, where she served as their Librarian and Historian. She was also a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Hannah Caldwell Chapter of Davenport, where she served as their Chaplain for 14 years. She was a member of The National Society Daughters of The United States of 1812, a past Corresponding Secretary of the Muscatine Garden Club. She also served as Volunteer Production Chairman during World War II of the Muscatine County American Red Cross. She was volunteer first secretary to the Veterans Schick Camp and Hospital in Clinton, for Muscatine County American Red Cross, serving from 1943-1944. She was a Charter Member of the now disbanded Muscatine Civic Music, serving as a Board Member and Talent Chairman for 10 years. She was a former member of the Tri-City Symphony Auxiliary of Davenport, and the Electra Chapter #32 Order of the Eastern Star.

She was a genealogist and historian and was also an avid expert of needlepoint receiving many awards in Washington, DC at the Continental Congress of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also served as Chapter Chairman of the American Heritage of National Committees for Hannah Caldwell Chapter of the DAR.

Survivors include a sister, Eloise Bauerbach of Muscatine; a nephew, David A. Bauerbach of Muscatine; two nieces, Lynn Molis and her husband, William, of Madison, Wisconsin, and Kathryn Pace and her husband, Keith, of Wilton; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1990, and her brother, Benjamin Sharer.

• She was buried after 15 April 2003 in the Greenwood Cemetery in Muscatine, IA.

Her gravestone is a small flat block of rose colored marble approximately 24" wide and 12" tall. The inscription reads "Iris G. Schreurs, 1908 - 2003".
