Catharine Mackie was born in Lochel Cushule, Scotland, June 24th, 1832. Died Nov. 25th, 1914, at Springdale, Iowa, aged 82 years, 5 months, 1 day.

At the age of 18 she was converted and joined the Presbyterian church in Scotland. She brought her letter from that church to America. For the past six years she has been a member of the Springdale Friends church.

She was married to Alexander Mackie Dec. 1st, 1859. He preceded her to the better land Oct. 2, 1912.

To this union were born eight children, one of whom died in infancy. The others, with eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, remain to mourn her loss. The surviving children are Elizabeth Reed, Alex. Mackie of Minot, N.D., Kate Lightfoot of Sisseton, S.D., Ann Smith of Springdale, Iowa, Emma Roberts of West Liberty, IA., George and Stewart Mackie of Laurens, IA., all of whom were present at the funeral except Alex Mackie, who was absent on

Mother Mackie, with her companion and two children, came from Scotland in 1854 and settled in Scott county, IA., and in 1869 they moved to a farm near Pedee, Cedar county, and in 1891 they moved to Springdale where she has since resided. She was a kind and loving mother and a kind and good neighbor and was honored and respected by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed in the
home and the community.

The funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Nov. 27th, at the Friends church in charge of her former pastor, Rev. Ernest L. Gregory, of Arnolds Park, IA. Interment in the Pedee cemetery.
