Some records, notably the death records for her daughter, Dora, show the mothers name as "Permelia Faust". Of course this information would have been what was provided by the surviving family members of Dora but this does indicate that at some point in time, her mother, Mary Permelia Fast, wanted her name to be known as Permelia Faust. Her one brother, Jonathan Wesley Faust, remained in the Marion County area and he was convinced that the original spelling of the family name was Faust and may have convinced Mary Permelia Fast to change her spelling as well.
