bullet  General Notes:

Some researchers show a marriage between this John Jacob Bowman, son of Christian Bowman, to Margaret Akins. Ones that do show this marriage make no mention of his other two marriages to Caroline Weaver and Elizabeth Hyatt. The marriage date to Margaret Akins is usually give as 1866 which means it could not be the same John Bowman, son of Christian, because both the 1860 and 1870 census show him married to and living with Elizabeth Hyatt.

This causes speculation that there might have been yet a third John Jacob Bowman in the area with a nearly identical birth date. None of those other researchers have supplied a source citation for the marriage to Margaret Akins so it may all be a mistake. I have seen a marriage document for Margaret Akins being married in 1866 in Mahoning County but it was to Jacob Bowman and not a John Jacob Bowman. Most likely these other researchers have this Jacob Bowman mixed up with John Jacob Bowman, son of Christian Bowman.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

The name of John Jacob Bowman has been easily confused by other researchers with another John Jacob Bowman born only 3 years later in the same general area. In addition, there was at least one other John Bowman living in the same county in the next decade or two.

Even the 1850 census which shows a John Bowman with wife named Caroline, presumably Caroline Weaver, seems questionable if this is the correct John Bowman. The 1850 census indicates John's birth year of about 1810 which was 3 years after this John Bowman, but matches the other John Jacob Bowman, who was the son of John Jacob Bowman, Sr. and Charlotte Stough. The major differences between the two seems to be that this one tended to stay in Mahoning County, Ohio whereas the one born to Charlotte Stough spent many years in Columbiana County, Ohio and eventually moved to Noble County, Indiana. Those facts alone make me believe that the 1850 census from Mahoning County applies to this John Jacob Bowman, son of Christian Bowman, even though the census makes it seem that he was born 3 years later than believed.

NOTE - I have yet to figure out who "Dova Bowman" was. She was not listed immediately following the husband and wife which suggests that she may have different parentage. Seth Hyatt was the father of Elizabeth.
