 Cause of his death was Cancer of the intestines.
General Notes:
Dewey Renton started his own plumbing business in Rockford and upon his death, his four sons took over the business calling it Renton Brothers Plumbing. His son, Jerry Renton, spent time in the military and upon his discharge moved to California so he had very little to do with the plumbing business. Supposedly both Roger and John were not satisfied with the third brother, Don's workmanship and ethics in the business so Roger and John both asked Don to leave the business. Donald Renton's share was bought out by both Roger and John leaving only those two sons to run the business. Don then entered into real estate and continued in that line of business for the rest of his life. Upon Roger's death in 1972, John kept running the business with the assistance of his sons but the business was never as much as it once was. In 2002, the building still stands but is badly deteriorated on a run-down abandoned lot in west Rockford. (Brian L. Lightfoot)

Death Notes:
The death certificate shows the birth location as "Michigan" however it appears that "Illinois" was originally entered and as evidenced by a different looking type font, the word "Michigan" replaced it. Both the 1900 and 1930 Census records indicate that Dewey was born in Illinois and that his mother was born in Michigan.

Dewey was first diagnosed with cancer following an apparent exploratory surgery on 21 April 1954. One year later he was hospitalized in Rockford Memorial Hospital for one month until his death on 24 April 1955 exactly one year and three days later.

NOTE - With an age of 11 months, the correct birth date would be June 1899 instead of June 1900. The enumerator originally wrote in 1 to signify an age of 1 year. But the supervisor figured that with a birth month of June 1900, Dewey could only be 11 months old so the figure was changed from "1" to "11/12". The age given is correct; only the year is not correct.
