bullet  Marriage Notes:

They moved to Indiana around 1863 then to Belle Plaine, Benton County, Iowa around 1869. This is from Karen Forbes as told to her by Nancy Rice Kiddoo, her data from 1880 US Census records from Benton County, Iowa and from probate records for Andrew Darner. Tamar's name is listed as Tamer Ruth Wyly in the will and Tamer Wylie in a suit brought by John Soragg in 1887 against the heirs of Andrew Darner. Nancy does not show where she found the marriage records for Tamer although she does state that all marriages for the children of Andrew and Hannah were found in the Muskingum County Courthouse in Zanesville, Ohio.

(per Dannell Hopkins, http://www.geocities.com/danni_7493 2/)
-------------------------------------------------

There is a great deal of confusion about two of their children and the grandchildren from these two. James Albert Wiley, born in 1857, and John Alonzo Wiley, born in 1860 are often confused with one another and some researchers believe that they might be the same person. But the 1870 and 1880 US Census records clearly show that they were two different persons.

James A. Wiley, who sometimes went by his middle name of Albert, was married to Mary R. Ortscheid in 1881 at Belle Plaine, Iowa. There are no birth records of any of his supposed children which would definitively show him as the father or Mary as the mother so the parentage of at least 4 children come into question. These include Frank Wiley, born 1883, Orin Henry Wiley, also born 1883, May Wiley, born 1884, and John J. Wiley, born 1890.

The mystery starts immediately after the 1881 marriage with the 1885 Iowa State Census in which James Albert Wiley is shown as still living at home with his parents. He and all his siblings are noted as still single and not married. Does this mean the marriage to Mary R. Ortscheid might have been to a different James Albert Wiley? Perhaps.

However, in the 1900 US Census, the then married Mary Wiley is found living with her brother-in-law, Edgar Howland in Anamosa, Jones County, Iowa. But living with her is Orin Wiley who was designated as a nephew to Edgar Howland which makes him a son to Mary. In addition, Mary was noted as married, having given birth to 2 children but only 1 survived at the time. There is no mention about her husband, James Albert Wiley, and he is not found elsewhere in the 1900 US Census.

What this means is that James and Mary could not be the parents to all three of the other grandchildren, Frank, May, and John J. Wiley. But since she gave birth to a total of 2, perhaps one of these names was her child also and must have died before 1900 (remember, she indicfated on the 1900 US Census that she had 2 children and only 1 survived).
