According to Jane Lorene Best (wife of Ira's brother, Gene Leonard Darner): "He was divorced 1916, then moved to Woodinville, King County, WA. Remarried. He left when his youngest son, Gene Leonard, was four years old and returned to the home of his eldest daughter Clara Merle shortly before he died. Jan 1959."

(NOTE - The divorce may not have been until after 1920. The WWI Draft Registration form from 1918 still listed Mollie as his wife and on the 1920 US Census with Mollie living alone with her children, she still listed her marital status as married instead of divorced.)

¹² Ira Gail Darner, 82 years, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Merle Hulit, of Columbia Falls.

Mr. Darner came to Columbia Falls four months ago and had previously lived in the state of Washington for about 30 years.

Mr. Darner is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hulit of Columbia Falls, Mrs. Elsie McCartney of Tacoma, Wash., and two sons, Carl Darner of Columbia Falls and Gene Darner of Havre, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside rites for Mr. Darner will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery by the Rev. Ralph Werner of the Columbia Falls Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Waggener and Campbell Funeral Home.
