Albert Miller Corbin ¹

Uncle Albert was self made man in that he was a farm hand who could not read and write when he married my Aunt, Nellie Mayhew. They worked through hard times with a small farm. Albert approached the local bank for a loan to buy an interest in a local orchard. Only one man on the bank board was favorably disposed to making the loan and he convinced the other board members to do so. Years later after he prospered with the orchard, Albert became president of the bank board of directors, a position which he held for many years. The orchard became the largest apple orchard in the state and their apples were shipped nationwide.

Albert was a man with a tremendous sense of humor and he could regale one for hours with tales of the local people as well as tales of his own family. He later bought a Winter residence at Lake Ocachoobe, Florida. Although he once bought a Cadillac, he was much more comfortable in his pick up truck.

Albert married Nellie E. Mayhew, daughter of Edwin Uriah Mayhew and Ida Jane Biser, in 1912.¹ (Nellie E. Mayhew was born on 27 October 1894 ^{1 2} and died in November 1981 in Romney, WV ².)
